Edited by: Titan AE on 26/05/2004 19:09:16 Hi everyone,
Do you think mabey CCP is confusing features with content? Is this part of the reason new content is always so remarkably behind schedual? For the purpose of this thread I'll define content and features as I intend to use them.
Content = New stuff Features = New ways to do things
It is my opinion that the Devs for EVE are very late in releasing promised material, even in a industry known for being tardy, genrally being a year behind on a promise to deliver is a mark of shame. Stations are what I am refering to in that last statement. Do you think the devs are a little too late in getting promised content out? I certainly do.
After watching EVE grow over the time since retail and having gone through the stages of boredom, The-Sky-Is-Falling stage, and the famous "I quit" stage. I am begining to think CCP is late on following through in large part due to the fact that every time they try to put in new content they tie its release to new features required to implement the new content. The new features are tough to code and seems to be taking what should be fairly simple ideas for expanding game play options (such as more trade routes, more special locations, rare short term spawns ect.) and making them unreleaseable because they can't write all the new code for those features becuase they are drowning in all the other complicted coding they have set out for themselves on other projects.
It seems to me that CCP could provide so much more enjoyment for the playerbase if they would just put a little bit more effort into adding content which is easy to code and advertising it a bit. ie a new pirate station, a new trade good ect. The pace-work of releasing everyday non-game changing new "stuff" is far too slow. I have been staring at the same ship model for a year now, that seems rediculous to me. It seems even more rediculous that a lot of the tech II ships will use the same models, its like CCP doesn't understand that some of the EASY stuff to change is the most gratifying to their customers. Like new ship models. Ships released every 6 mos with the teeniest tiniest improvements and a new look would be a lot of fun, and I imagine easy to code, at least relative to the very ambitious features they burn up so much time on now.
In essence I suggest to you that CCP is missing the boat, always trying to do the very difficult biggest thing they can pull off instead of paying as much attention as they should with just making the game have a regular reasonably fast paced supply of new things to do. Our universe seems stagnant. The tech II release CANNOT take a year as tech I has, its simply too little too slow.
Does any of this make sence to you? Do you agree or dissagree. Thanks for your time. : )
